Question about the timing of the block

Question about the timing of the block

Hey Mac,

I was analyzing many other discus throwers and noticed that after they hit the block, their left leg will come off the ground simultaneously as the discus is leaves their hand. Is that how the reverse is supposed to happen? Because I have been working on having a strong block and trying to figure the correct timing for when I can reverse.

Austin,
This all depends on the thrower, sorry no single answer.
Usually reverse throwers throw too much with their upper body and the left foot leaves the ground too soon.
Through out my career I went from the left foot off the ground before release to off the ground after release.
The timing of release and block are very delicate and can vary based on the rhythm of the throw.

To help feel this sometimes you might want to create power into the implement by focusing only on the left side and the block. What is the best timing to make effortless throws that go far? Thats the bottom line.
Mac
