Dr. LeRoy Perry

The Foundation for Athletic Research and Education, founded by my friends Dr. LeRoy Perry and the late Wilt Chamberlain, is the vehicle for Dr. Perry’s research on spinal rehabilitation and therapy. The results are dramatic and could revolutionize spinal therapy and care.

Dr. Perry saved my career as an Olympic Discus Thrower.

Mr. Grumpy – Before Treatment

The morning of the Mt. SAC Relays in 1976 my career was almost over. it took me 20 minutes to get out of bed.  Once out of bed, I could hardly walk.

My back had seized up and did not want me to move. The spasms were so strong I was nearly immobilized. Throwing the discus, like golf, tennis or baseball is a “One Sided” activity. Unless you train your weak side, eventually you will become so unbalanced you can’t function. In severe cases you can cause bulging or herniated discs in your spine.

In any case I had a hard time getting up and dressed.

Fortunately, I was able to see Dr. Perry at the track early enough to get two treatments from him before the competition.

After the first treatment I was able to jog gently and do light stretching. After the second session with the doctor I was able to throw the discus pain free. It was a miracle!

The week of training leading up to the competition was one of my best ever. My back was not getting in the way of a good result, thanks to Dr. Perry.

Dr. Perry made the difference between not competing and breaking the World Record!

That day, April 25, 1976, I broke the World Record!

I went on to another 13 years of competitive success, winning Olympic Gold and Silver medals and breaking the World Record three more times.

Today I live an active life with NO BACK PAIN.

Dr. LeRoy Perry and his treatments are LIFE CHANGING! I am so excited to be able to help with his research project. This project will allow many others to receive the kind of treatment and pain relief I did.
